Make a plain fitted waist of double thickness of orange*. Bind around neck and armholes with a 2" wide strip of orange folded like bias tape to 1/2". Stitch skirt to waist.

Make a green bolero jacket of a double thickness, Fig. D. Bind edges with green. Gather and sew a soft fringe* of the 5 colors about 10" deep across the tops of the armholes. When cutting fringe, fold so that there will be a heading at both ends uncut, Fig. E. Stitch a 3" deep stiff fringe at bottom, Fig. F.  Add ribbons to tie.

Make a neck ruff of the 5 colors cut 6" wide, 1 yd. long, fringed from both edges to within I" of center. Gather to 8" length and stitch to ribbon long enough to tie around neck, Fig. G.

How to Make Angel Wings

Cut cardboard foundation the desired size, following the proportions in Fig.A. Make each wing separately with tab extension about 3"  x 4". Cut out the center, leaving a rim about 1" wide. Overlap tabs and fasten with metal paper fasteners, Fig. B.Fasten two pieces No.7 Wire to wings with tabs of gummed tape, Fig. B.

Cover each wing smoothly on both sides with crepe paper, pasting it around" the edge and trimming surplus off closely.

Cut 4" wide strips ,of crepe paper into "feathers" 3" deep, 3/4" wide*, Fig. C.

Beginning at the tip of wing, paste feathers to the foundation, arranging so that each row overlaps the previous one about half way and so that the feathers alternate. Cover both sides in the same way.  It will usually not be necessary to paste the strips except at the edges, of the wings. Sometimes a little paste is needed in the center to hold them in place.

Cover the extension with crushed crepe*. Punch small holes in the four corners. Tie ribbons in place so that wings may be fastened by crossing the ribbons in front and tying them tightly in back. It may also be necessary to sew the wings to the back of the costume. Bend the wings up into correct position, as shown in the illustration above.

For robe, seam 2-yd. lengths of white crepe paper to make floor length skirt.  Gather and sew to slip at waistline, Fig. I. Make a plain blouse* with long loose sleeves, shaped as Fig. J. Stitch silver ribbon to bottoms of sleeves before seaming. Make Peter Pan collar, with ribbon trimming like that on the sleeves.

For belt, braid two strands of silver ribbon and one strand white to go around the waist and allow silver ribbon ends to hang down at the front. Stick silver stars to lower part of skirt as shown in illustration.

For panniers, cut a piece of blue crepe 20" wide, 30" long in shape of Fig. E. Turn curved edges under 1" and stitch. Cut flowers from the wrapping paper and paste 6" apart all over the shaped piece. Double through the middle of 22" side and seam. Gather the now straight edge, drawing up to about 8". Make two and sew one to skirt at each side, about 4" from front edge of bodice when it is laced as shown in illustration. Tuck the seamed end in and fold as shown in illustration.

Make bodice of a double thickness of black, Fig. F. Punch holes in front edges and lace with black ribbon. Turn under at back edges and sew snap fasteners in place.

How to Make Fairy Wings / Bee Wings

If cellophane is used, you will need cellophane cement. Trim surplus off closely. Fasten the two wings together with spool wire. Cover the fastening by wrapping with a strip of crepe paper, Fig. F. Bend into correct position and fasten to costume with ribbon as described for angel wings.

A plain ruffled dress may be made without a muslin slip foundation. Make plain skirt of amber crepe paper, using 1 1/2yds. for fullness. Add four 4" wide ruffles*, the upper one about 3" below waistline. Finish with a narrow band of crepe paper*.

Sew a tight-fitting bodice* of 2 thicknesses to the skirt. Add yellow ribbon shoulder straps. Fasten with snap fasteners.

Make a foundation of brown crepe paper for the butterfly's body like a slip-over* shaped like Fig. H. The grain should go up and down, so it must be pieced*. Cover with crushed crepe paper*. Turn surplus over and paste to back of foundation. Sew ribbons at waistline to tie in place*.

Make wings of tarlatan with pattern, Fig. J. Fold a 2" wide strip of brown crepe paper like bias tape to 1/2" and stitch over outside edges of wings.

Cut spots from Gummed Crepe, Figs. K and L. Stick back to back on wings. Gather wings and sew to back of body in correct position so that wings may be tied to the arms with narrow ribbon.

Cover 1" wide; 23" long strip firm wrapping paper on both sides with gold paper. Fasten in correct head size. Wrap a 22" piece of wire with a very narrow strip of gold paper*.  Bend in half and sew to front of band. Bend ends into position illustrated.
